Muscular & Skeletal

Muscular skeletal Acupuncture covers all acute injuries and chronic conditions due to physical activities and or body degeneration due to ageing or illness.

The History of Acupuncture in the treatment sports injury / muscular skeletal disorders is recorded back over 1000+ years. Acupuncture has specific methods and techniques that were developed to stop pain and dramatically decrease recovery time.

Most commonly activities such as physical training, martial arts, competitive sports, and outdoor recreation can cause stress or damage muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints, these are the areas that are most prone to injury. Acupuncture is very successful in treating most muscular skeletal disorders and is very popular in the professional sports arena.

How does Acupuncture work with muscular skeletal disorders?

Acupuncture is an effective treatment for muscular skeletal disorders and Sports Injuries as it reduces pain, can increases range of motion, decrease recovery and healing time, and strengthen weakened muscles tendons and ligaments.

  • Improves local blood circulation to increase delivery of nutrients and removal of toxic elements

Acute Injuries (Recent Injuries)

Acute injuries need to be properly diagnosed and in some instances an Xray, MRI or ultra sound may be required to rule out a more serious injury.

Acupuncture treatment is recommended at the most earliest time after injury for the quickest results.

Acute injuries go under the classification of Excess conditions in Chinese medicine. An Excess condition because there is an excess physical response (too much pain) or an excess biochemical reaction (too much inflammation or swelling).

Acupuncture can be very fast acting in this situation and improvement and sometimes recovery can be gained within one or two treatments. If the injury does not involve tears or excessive strains then on average most condition could take 3-4 treatments. More serious acute injuries could take longer however this can only be measured on a case by case diagnosis.

Chronic Injuries (Old Injuries)

Chronic injuries or muscular skeletal disorders is very common and can be a result from acute injuries not properly treated and or just the result of a life of using incorrect biomechanics for movements such as walking, lifting and general postural incorrect positioning for doing all types of activities.

Chronic injuries can also be the result from having poor internal organ functions such as the Livers ability to clean the blood, the Kidneys to support the strength of the lower back and the digestive systems role to digest and metabolise your food and drink to create vitality which is then used as food for your muscles and nervous system, these are just some examples. Therefore treatment of chronic injuries can sometimes be quite complex, however also very rewarding for you as my client as many other symptoms you have learnt to live with can also be addressed.

It is important to determine if there is an underlying structural cause for a lingering injury such as a loss of cartilage, formation of scar tissue or degenerative damage of any kind.

Therefore when it comes to treating chronic conditions is very difficult for me to give you a generalised time frame for the amount of treatment required, however we can guarantee that you will see progressive results from our treatments and after your initial consultation treatment timeframes can more easily be given.
